"The Edge of Sleep"

Theme: I had been collecting boat and raft images in a folder labeled "Bardo" which has to do with the border between states of being - waking and sleeping, for instance - often depicted as a river or river crossing. Materials: The scrap board had been hanging around a long time. I disguised the flaws with colors and doodles. Instead of using a mat and frame, I mounted my collage on a backing board that I had wrapped (back and sides) in sturdy calendar pages. The layers are held together with a set of 4 vintage buttons secured with coated wire, from which the piece is hung. The purpose of collaging the back as well as the front is to keep the board from buckling; the paper and glue on the back of the board counterbalance the materials being attached to the front of the board.
